Physiotherapy for Dancers and Artistic Athletes

Dance and acrobatics require strength to stabilize

  • Are you or your kids wanting to progress in dance but the past or current injuries hold you back?
  • Have you tried getting your splits with stretching but still didn’t get the results you want?
  • Do you want to look more fluid and controlled but have a hard time controlling your movement?
  • Have you told yourself that your pain will go away with time, but every time you do the same move that it still hurts?

We hear your frustrations and physiotherapy can help you!

Dance is a universal language used to express emotions through movement. Some people might not consider dance as a form of official sports, but dance is by no means easy. Dance requires precision, coordination, power, flexibility, strength, endurance, and musicality. Dance comes in very different styles: ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, hip-hop, Latin, ballroom, belly dance, Chinese dance, pole dance, aerial dance, ethnic dance to name a few. As a result, dance physiotherapy is a specific area of physiotherapy that specializes in assessing and treating dancers and artistic athletes’ injuries.

As physiotherapists, we conduct a full assessment to evaluate what muscles in your body are tight and/or weak. We observe the way you stand, you walk, you squat, you jump to understand how you use your body, which can prediose your muscles to present the way it does. We take into consideration your past injuries, as they can limit your range of motion even long past the injury was healed. Once we understand the source of the problem, we will recommend some treatment options such as:

  • Manual therapy
  • Acupuncture/dry needling
  • Cupping
  • Taping
  • Rehab exercises prescription
  • Mobility training
  • Dance conditioning
